PROMISE

Tim and Eric purchased Promise from us as a puppy.  He is pictured here on his 8th birthday, which he just celebrated on Jan. 1, 2010.  Please read Promise's story to find out what a special Dane he is -- and what a special home he has.

In the summer of 2006, Promise was admitted to U.C. Davis Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital for major cancer surgery.  Promise had an ossifying epulis, an oral tumor that had infiltrated the bone of his lower right mandible (jawbone) and canine root tooth and a fibrosarcoma tumor in his chest.

The front of the jawbone between the front two teeth (incisor) and just in front of the two second premolars was removed.  At that same time, the fibrosarcoma tumor was removed from his left chest (with wide margins needed) and a skin flap was used from his lower chest to close the defect.  Promise has adjusted well to the oral surgery as he chews his bones, eats and grabs his toys with his left side of his mouth where he has opposing upper and lower jawbones.

Promise has always been a well-behaved companion dog to his humans and fellow Great Dane housemates and we couldn’t be happier!
